Foreign secretary red flags China’s connectivity push before parliamentary panel
NEW DELHI: Even as connectivity becomes part of the strategic jostling by major powers in the region, the Modi government has red-flagged growing Chinese presence in India’s neighbourhood stressing the need for India to be more efficient in implementation of its own development projects in neighbouring countries.
In remarks to Parliament’s standing committee for external affairs recently, foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said under Xi .., China is determined to “spread its presence abroad to protect its interests.” This is clear in the establishment of foreign military bases, as in Djibouti, as well as undertaking projects in almost all south Asian countries. While some countries are having second thoughts about China, that is cold comfort for India, and it was imperative that India should speed up its own delivery mechanism.
China’s rise, Gokhale said, “offers both opportunities and challenges” especially as China’s international posture becomes more confident and assertive. “Connectivity issues are animating much of strategic manoeuvring by major powers. While we are working on the Asia Africa Growth Corridor and the Chabahar port development, China has clearly stepped up its role through the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative.” China is a serious player here, having been a “substantial net exporter of capital, technology and infrastructure” in the past few years.

"China is a serious player here", yes but, China doesn''t have Gandhi family and Congress. China does not have violently anti-majority parties who are promoting Islam in India. These traitors will keep India a third rate fourth world country for centuries.

We are fighting amongst ourselves. Anything govt does is opposed by other parties for political gains. No one bothers about country.

On international stage only money and power talk. China has money, US has power. India has none of the above. Hugging, begging and self-bragging never work. Indians should have seen that clearly by now. If not, send Modij on another hugging and begging trip around the globe

India should stop dreaming on competing with China and listen to them. Mahagatbandhan will halt India and will be back to the old days. Don’t wait for them to show mercy later...

CHINA has a head start of atleast a decade but INDIA is catching up both by its awakening and by the rapid realisation&backing by concerned global interests leading to "THE QUAD"initiatives along with security strategy&economic partnership with INDIA.The only lagging factor for INDIA is its ethos of both "REACTIVE"&"INERTIA"of mindset which needs to be addressed on "WAR"footing by involving youths from border areas of NE&East promoting nation building&national pride.
