原文标题：China builds new city on disputed isle
BEIJING: China's newest city is a tiny remote island in the South China Sea, barely large enough to host a single airstrip. There is a post office, bank, supermarket and a hospital, but little else.
Fresh water comes by freighter on a 13-hour journey from China's southernmost province. Welcome to Sansha, China's expanding toehold in the world's most disputed waters, portions of which are also claimed by Vietnam, the Philippines and other neighbours.
On Tuesday a new mayor declared Sansha, with a population of just 1,000, China's new municipality. Beijing has created the city administration to oversee not only the rugged outpost but hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of water, to strengthen its control over disputed - and potentially oil-rich - islands. A spokesman for the Philippines foreign ministry said Manila did not recognize the city or its jurisdiction. Vietnam said China's actions violated international law.
Not that China has built on the island, all disputes are null and void.

During the cold war Russia had a well known policy: "Act First, Negiotate afterwards.". China seems to be following in the footsteps of its communist brother. Cheers. Like America blockaded Cuba can Japan/USA blockade the island? Every thing on the island has to come from outside so a blockade will be sucessful. But it may not be possible for them to enforce a blockade. Russia failed in the Berlin blockade as the air route was used. Here there is no alternative.

I do not know what UN is doing here. China do not have maturity to handle the super power status. It is torturing every neighboring countries. All other super powers are now kneeling down and begging for bail out from China.

It is nothing new to us. From our boyhood, we had to bear some important phrases or idioms or proverbs in our mind for our future exams. One of those was - " Might is right". Israel is occupying its neighbouring country's lands much more than its proposed area of 1948. America is enjoying many military bases on foreign soil around the world despite the strong opposition of local people, even local govt. China is also doing the same. It certainly enhances prestige, power and pride! It is also the law of nature. Big fishes always swallow relatively small ones!

very well said sir, really very good observation.
In theory , Communist ideologues used to argue that a Communist country cannot be expansionist and that Communism is by nature opposed to colonialism. They had such deep belief that they refused that China had attacked India in 1962 !!!Both Russia and China however proved the theory wrong. While Russia had to let go it's slave countries -China continue to be bullying all it's neighbors.

Similar action happened to Goa in 1961. Any comments on India for its annexation of Goa and its 'imperialistic' actions? The thing is Indians and India would be the same as what China is rightfully doing now if she has the military might. So stop being a hypocrite especially when history is not on your side, guys.

The ultimate question is if Philippines and Vietnam will settle for sending paper when China sends troops and colonists. AT some time the bark must be followed with a bite or people lose respect for the dog.

China uses many distractions to take our eyes of her military build-up. This 'islands dispute' is just another engineered incident by the PLA propaganda machine to take our eyes off what the PLA is doing in her hidden mountain workshops. The PLA still builds for Maos great dream of 200 million soldiers. If we look for the hidden manufacturing... we will come to see it.

China's greed is insatiable. Look where India is; China builds new bases in Island in the wink of an eye, and India gets stuck with its hornbills and coral reef. What a farce!!!
